Shop paperwork made from the job, not retyped

Every job packet was rebuilt by copying the last one and editing it line by line. We make it straight from the job data.

The problem

Each job's paperwork packet was built by hand, usually by copying a similar old job and editing it line by line.

The existing process

The office found an old packet that looked close, copied it, and changed the part number, steps, and amounts, for every single job.

Why it mattered

A wrong step on a packet doesn't get caught in the office. It gets caught at the machine, after time and material are already spent.

What we did

We built a tool that makes the packet straight from the job's own data. It lays out the steps and details in the shop's usual format, every time.

The result

Packets come out the same every time and are ready to check. The office stops hunting for an old job to copy.

What happened next

With packets handled, they pointed us at the next repeat document, the inspection sheet, which uses the same job data.
