Drag a folder in, get finished files out
Prepping drawing files was a click-by-click slog, one file at a time. We built a tool that does a whole folder at once.
The problem
Prepping drawing files, changing the format, cleaning them up, and joining them into one set, was done one file at a time, by hand, all day.
The existing process
Open a file. Run the same steps. Save. Close. Open the next. On a big job that's hundreds of times, and it's easy to miss one.
Why it mattered
It burned skilled time on plain clicking. And a missed step didn't show up until someone down the line hit the bad file.
What we did
We built a small Windows tool. Point it at a folder and it changes, cleans, and joins every file at once, the same way each time. No setup, it's one file you just run.
The result
A batch that took an afternoon of clicking now runs in minutes. And the files come out the same every time, because the tool does each one the same way.
What happened next
They asked for a second mode to handle a related file type the same way, so the whole prep step lives in one tool.
